PRO-NDC-1E2K

The PRO-NDC-1E2K is a next-generation multiplexer, which features five NMEA 0183 inputs and two isolated outputs. This new version also packs the power of NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 conversion with both protocols able to stream at high speed over ethernet, made possible thanks to the copper ethernet connection.

The PRO-NDC-1E2K has been developed to solve many of the interconnectivity challenges faced onboard, enabling high-speed data transfer for GPS, AIS, Autopilot and other onboard devices whilst simultaneously overcoming bandwidth limitations. Default configurations, flexible configuration on the go, auto-switching and sentence level filtering allow for efficient management and greater control of instrument data. Ideal for those who want to retain legacy equipment but also connect with modern NMEA 2000 systems. The product has been Type Approved by RINA, making it the world’s first type approved multiplexer featuring three connectivity protocols: NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and ethernet.

Actisense CEO, Phil Whitehurst, commented:

In addition to the PRO-NDC-1E2K, Actisense have also released a new NMEA 2000 Wi-Fi gateway, WGX-1. This multi-functional gateway provides seamless connection between NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 bidirectionally, as well as the ability to cast both protocols over Wi-Fi. There is a data transfer mode as well as an SD card slot to allow for extensive data logging.

Mr Whitehurst added:

“Being able to stream both NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 over Wi-Fi means that irrespective of which industry mobile application you want to use, you will have the data you need in the format that you need it. There is also the great benefit of being able to configure your NMEA 2000 gateway wirelessly over a webpage, meaning the ability to do that without removing the gateway from the network. The WGX-1 packs so many features into this tiny box, we think it is the best value NMEA gateway you’ll find!”

Both products also come loaded with Actisense-i, the smart NMEA diagnostic suite from Actisense.

ECMA Awards 2024

The event’s Innovation Showcase took place on 11th June, at the end of the first day of the Seawork International exhibition and recognised the depth of Excellence in the commercial marine industry across 9 different categories.
The device that won Actisense the accolade was the latest iteration of its popular NMEA multiplexer. The PRO-NDC-1E2K is the world’s first Type Approved NMEA 0183 multiplexer with built-in NMEA 2000 integration and conversion and high-speed ethernet connectivity. The ability to easily integrate technologies on these different protocols, with significant cost and time savings was what the judges celebrated. 

Actisense Head of Commercial, Justin Cohen, was at the event and collected the award on the company’s behalf. He said: “We are delighted to receive this award for our latest product, the PRO-NDC-1E2K. Innovation is one of our company’s five core values, so this is a particularly special award to receive. Like all our NMEA solutions, this product has been specifically designed to solve as many key inter-connectivity challenges as possible.”
Regarding the exhibition, Mr Cohen added: “Seawork is always an excellent industry event that really brings the sector together to learn, to celebrate each other’s latest innovations and to reconnect. It is always heartening to walk the show and see so many of our customers who have pieces of our tech on their own stands, as part of their own impressive solutions.”

The prestigious European Commercial Marine Awards (ECMAs) attract entries from across Europe, recognising the depth of excellence in the commercial marine industry. The ECMAs celebrate outstanding innovations from the companies and individuals that comprise this vibrant and productive industry sector. Judged by a panel of industry experts and chaired by the editor of Maritime Journal, the ECMAs were presented at the awards evening on the opening day of Seawork, Tuesday 11 June 2024.

NMEA Training in Europe

The NMEA 2000 Basic and NMEA 2000 Advanced courses will be run in June. The Basic NMEA 2000® Installer Training is aimed at beginners, covering the basics of building NMEA 2000 networks, while the NMEA 2000® advanced course focuses on installations, setup, and diagnostic troubleshooting of moderately complex NMEA 2000® networks. The class is exclusively taught in person and consists of a presentation followed by "hands-on” training and a class lunch.

Until now, only those either living in the USA or those willing to travel to the States have been able to gain the qualifications. This is because there is a practical assessment to complete before advanced certification can be awarded. The purpose of the hands-on portion is to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the ability to build, configure, backup network files, and evaluate network conditions using the diagnostic tools shown in the class.

Josh Keets, Solutions Engineer at industry-leading NMEA specialists, Actisense – based in Poole, UK – has been commissioned by the NMEA to deliver the training courses. Mr. Keets – himself a certified NMEA Trainer – explained:

“It’s incredibly exciting to be able to bring these valuable NMEA courses to the UK, making them much more easily accessible to the wider European marine electronics sector. I had the opportunity to deliver the NMEA 2000 Basic and Advanced courses in Amsterdam at METSTRADE last year, and I’m thrilled to be back there this year, as well as offering these to those in the UK too.”

 

In terms of subjects covered, Mr. Keets added:

“The training features NMEA 2000® certified products from major manufacturers such as Furuno, Garmin, Raymarine, Actisense and Maretron - This allows students to get familiar with some of the instruments they will come across in the field, instilling confidence and understanding of how these products operate.”

Mr. Keets will deliver the NMEA 2000 Basic course on Monday 18th November and NMEA 2000 Advanced course on Friday 22nd November, on either side of the METSTRADE show in Amsterdam.

With eight NMEA 0183 inputs, six NMEA 0183 outputs, a bi-directional serial port and an Ethernet port, the PRO-MUX-2 is a perfect solution for larger leisure vessels, commercial shipping and is a great addition for systems that require type-approved devices.
